A special note:
For those closest to our group, you know that since last May I
have had some health issues that have slowed our playing down
for a while. During
this time of injury and recovery, many friends of Fire in the
Kitchen contacted me personally to give me words of
encouragement. The
emails, cards, flowers and supportive words helped to give me
strength during a very dark time in my life. For
this I say “thank you from the bottom of my heart”.
For
those who may not have known, I had two major surgeries within a
2 ½ month period from July-September of 2009. One
surgery, Laser Spine surgery, was expected and was for a
ruptured disc in my neck. The second surgery was VERY much
unexpected. This surgery was for a shattered
elbow joint and broken ulna that I received by simply taking a
small step backward and falling over a rolling book bag onto
concrete. Talk about
hurting your funny bone! Needless
to say, the accident occurred on my dominant arm and the thought
of my hammered dulcimer playing, along with a few other things,
DID flash through my mind as I crash-landed on my elbow. But
I have persevered…
From
the moment I fell I cried out to God to help me and He did just
that. When the first orthopedic doctor did not want to attempt
to operate and I was told that my particular break was NOT good,
I prayed that God would take control and direct me to the doctor
that He would have attend to my needs.
After two other doctors told me again that it was a
serious break and then passed on “patching me up”, I was
gently directed to a wonderful doctor who was not only a very
skilled, but one who was a caring and compassionate Christian. I
knew this was where God had intended for me to be in order to
receive my care.
God
is good. I am SO
much better. I am
continuing physical therapy, working to regain full flexion and
extension in my arm and I see much improvement. Back in October,
I would not have thought I could be where I am now. I could not
see the light that many reminded me WAS at the end of the
tunnel. I have come
so far, but I have come that distance because of wonderful
friends and special angels that cared for me.
With
all of this said, I want you to know that FIRE IN THE KITCHEN is
back to performing. Please spread the word that we are ready and
raring to make more music for all who want to listen. We
appreciate all of the support that we have received and cherish
all the many friends we have made over time through the beauty
of music.
With
great affection and much love to all of our friends!
God
is good…all the time!
